Had Sullenberger not distracted Skiles - who was flying the plane - with his "Hey, Dude, look at the Hudson", had Skiles not taken the bait and looked, he would have seen the geese in time to have avoided them. Such was only the first of a myriad of mistakes that not only ended with them up the creek without a paddle, it ended the 'life' of the $80 million aircraft that saved them.
